The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.
The LEED Green Building Rating System was first developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1998 to provide a set of standards in which environmentally sustainable construction could be measured. Their goal is to give “building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance.” LEED identifies a building’s performance in the categories of Sustainability, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation in Design. Your LEED profile can help make you and your firm sought-after. We can help you build it.
Each category is then broken down into Pre-Requisite and Credit segments, such as Storage and Collection of Recyclables, Water Use Reduction, Stormwater Design and Recycled Content. Each credit is assigned a potential number of points. The total amount of points a building is able to obtain through the LEED’s process earns it a Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum ranking.
Green designs provide financial benefits that conventional designs do not. The increased energy efficiency of green buildings decreases heating and electric bills, reduced water and waste, lower operations and maintenance costs. Green buildings have also been shown to attribute to enhanced occupant productivity and health. Tax benefits are also available with the higher levels of LEED certification.
