Texas Medical Center Features Modern Mix of Contemporary Building Materials For Expansion

The University Medical Center in El Paso underwent an expansion to allow additional services and clinics to the community. One of these expansive properties was the East Clinic, that as the architects at Page Southerland Page, Inc. describe, “…reinforces the existing UMC visual identity by using many of the same materials and elements used at the front door and lobby of the hospital that anchors the health care network, providing patients with a sense of familiarity.”

The clinic is one-story and features a butterfly shape that allows for a centralized waiting room and expansion views of the nearby mountains. Daylighting was an essential component of the design, with ample natural light that penetrates the interior.

CEI Materials fabricated the exterior’s metal components including the angled front entry and column covers fabricated utilizing CEI Materials’ customizable R4000 Drained Rear-Ventilated Rainscreen System. The panels were manufactured by Reynobond in the company’s Champagne Mica finish which directly contrasts the mostly stone façade. 

CEI Materials’ R4000 system is the most economical rainscreen system available with an independent 4mm MCM spline joint. This system is tested to ASTM 283, ASTM 330, ASTM 331 and AAMA 509-09 and is NFPA 285 Compliant.
